Northwest Language Academy, NWLA, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization based in Langley, WA, provides innovative resources for people of all ages to learn new languages and to better understand diverse cultures as community becomes global.
Founded in 1996 on Whidbey Island, NWLA offers language classes to adults and to children from pre-school through high school age. Currently a slate of 8 languages is available: French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Spanish, Bulgarian, Japanese, and Chinese.
NWLA instructors are native speakers (or the equivalent) who bring both linguistic and cultural expertise to their students. They are engaging and enthusiastic professionals who make language come alive. Small student/teacher ratios allow the instructors to tailor their lessons to meet the specific needs of the group.
In addition to classroom offerings, NWLA offers private instruction, specialized weekend intensives called “Travelers’ Language Cafés,” cultural fairs, cultural excursions in the Seattle area, summer language camps, guided travel to foreign destinations, and translation. In 2010 NWLA moved its headquarters to a new campus - the former Ashingdon Manor Bed & Breakfast, The move allows us to expand our programs while offering lodging to our off-island guests.
