NWLA Summer Language Day Camps provide daily instruction reinforced by fun, enriching, age-appropriate activities that include arts & crafts, music, drama, food, field trips and more! Children play traditional games from each culture, enjoy ethnic food, and create beautiful crafts, paintings and sculpture. Activities include kites on the beach, visit with local artists fluent in the target language, fencing, flamenco dance, or tai-chi, making & playing musical instruments, sports, and the highlight - presentation of an original play to the community. Language is taught at all levels of proficiency, so that campers with no prior knowledge of the language are comfortable, and those who already have a foundation can expand their skills.
Our 2010 camps will be held at our beautiful new campus - the former Ashingdon Manor Bed & Breakfast. Campers can look forward to spacious, comfortable offices and meeting areas surrounded by 3 acres of idyllic meadows and landscaped grounds. Best of all, the elegant bed and breakfast facilities make it possible for us to offer exceptional accommodations for our off-island guests. Our new campus is located on the south side of Langley near the Island County Fairgrounds.

CAMPS STARTING JULY 19TH
Chinese Camp for Kids 7-13
Ma Liang and His Magical Paint BrushMa Liang and his Magical Paint Brush will take participants on a wonder-filled journey of exploration and learning. Campers will learn basic vocabulary and conversation phrases, get a taste of Chinese folk songs and dance, traditional children's group games, basic Wu Bu Quan ( Five step boxing) movements, kite making, pen-brush painting and writing, the art of Chinese paper cutting, sweet rice ball making, sample famous Chinese foods, and so much more! Together, campers will create a skit to present to family and friends at the end of camp. Teachers are native Chinese, with a wide range of teaching experience.

Spanish Camp for Preschoolers and ParentsAn exciting program as parents - or caregivers - and their preschool-age children engage in play and creative interactions while learning a language together. Through the gentle, age appropriate activities, participants build a repertoire of French or Spanish songs, verses, and fun games that become a part of their family tradition. A puppet show, a visit from local native speakers who bring their craft, food, or music to share, and many other fun surprises are part of the program.

Refresh and expand your language skills in a stress-free, supportive, relaxing, small class setting. Instructors are engaging native speakers with professional experience that bring both linguistic and cultural expertise to the class. The emphasis is on conversation, vocabulary building and pronunciation, with enough grammar to provide a firm foundation. The goal is maximum language acquisition for meaningful, real-life communication. Much more fun than the classes you took in high school or college!
